Catastro: Cadastral property information
Understand catastro, what to check and the practical steps to take.
What does it mean?
The Catastro is an administrative property register describing characteristics such as location, use, area and cadastral reference.
It is not the same system as the Land Registry. A cadastral description should not be used as a substitute for checking registered rights.
An everyday example
A mismatch in floor area is a question to investigate, not a reason to edit documents yourself.
What to do next
- Find the property’s cadastral reference on existing records.
- Compare the address and description with the actual property.
- If details appear inconsistent, ask an appropriate adviser which correction process applies.
- Keep cadastral and Land Registry documents clearly labelled.
A useful question to ask
Do these cadastral details match the property and the other records?
