Hacienda: Which tax office do you mean?
Understand hacienda, what to check and the practical steps to take.
What does it mean?
Hacienda is often used informally to mean the tax authorities. The word alone may not identify which administration is handling your matter.
Check the actual sender: national, regional and local tax matters should not be treated as one interchangeable service.
An everyday example
An IBI bill from a local collection service is not the same document as an income-tax return.
What to do next
- Look at the full authority name on the letter or bill.
- Identify the tax, reference and period involved.
- Find the authority’s official contact details independently.
- Keep the correspondence together and ask a qualified adviser if you cannot identify the obligation.
A useful question to ask
Which tax authority and which tax does this relate to?
