Receta: A prescription
Understand receta, what to check and the practical steps to take.
What does it mean?
A receta is a prescription issued by an authorised healthcare professional for dispensing medicines or relevant health products.
A medicine list, old box or appointment letter is not necessarily a valid prescription. Do not change treatment based on this glossary.
An everyday example
If you only have a previous medicine box, ask the pharmacist what prescription documentation is needed.
What to do next
- Check that you understand what has been prescribed and how to use it.
- Ask whether you have a paper prescription or an electronic one.
- Take the required prescription and identification to the pharmacy.
- Ask the pharmacist about any uncertainty, supply problem or collection timing.
A useful question to ask
Is this the prescription I need to collect the medicine?
